1/9/2024 0 Comments X plane atc pluginIt deserves five stars, if not entirely for overall quality, certainly for the effort. Installation is a bit contrived without better and more up-to-date instructions (in general documentation is a bit lacking) but this is not an insurmountable problem for anyone with some experience dealing with such matter in the sim. I would be very happy with reliable VFR comms to start with. For that purpose, it is at least better than XP's ATC and that is already quite an accomplishment! The IFR capabilities may be even better but I have not tested. This is certainly work in progress, but so far even the free version is fairly usable for VFR controlled airspace with some of the caveats described above. For example, is it possible to train the server to translate "request landing" to "request to join" as expected by the AI server? At the very least, it can be trained to better recognize the user's pronunciation. The cell phone app intelligently offers a voice recognition "training" feature that I've been experimenting with and by which it may be possible to "translate" some of the terminology from one standard to the other. This will be somewhat confusing for US pilots more accustomed to the FAA ways, I think this is the biggest issue I've had thus far. The communications phraseology and rules follows ICAO standards for the most part. There may be a workaround that I'm not aware of (?). voice (en-us-x-sfg-local) in the cell phone app it is even possible to change ATC pronunciation to 'merican! The only problem is that when this is done, the ATC voice is not piped to the sim audio but it can still be heard over the cell phone or headphones connected to it. I've read some complaints about legibility of the text-to-speech voice but I found that by changing the "ATC voice" in the cell phone settings it is possible to improve voice quality significantly. Even though I've just started testing it I see great potential. I had been looking for a free ATC replacement for XP's ATC that could handle VFR flights and I came across this. You can then register your call sign, and talk to the AI Air Traffic Controllers and see the AI aircraft: The free version of the application can only be used while connected to the X-Plane 11 plugin. This application can be used with and without the simulator, and includes a ground school and exercises (work in progress), does the actual voice recognition (for platform independence) and also runs the flight model of the AI aircraft you hear communicating and places them into X-Plane.Īlternatively, if you just want to try it out without AI aircraft visible in the sim, there is also a free version of the application available. Starting as a proof of concept in December 2017 to assist in helicopter ATC radio communications practice and experience for the PPL(H) license. AutoATC for windows, linux and MacOS is the outcome of a need to practice ATC communications in a more "realistic" way.
